Welcome to STAR Travel

STAR Travel provide coach travel to all away matches, both league and cup, departing from either the Madejski Stadium opposite the STAR HQ or from West Street outside Primark in Reading, using a fleet of modern coaches. The STAR Travel team can be contacted either by the Travel Enquiry line on 07919 931716 between 6pm and 8pm (not for bookings) or by email at travel@star-reading.org.

Making a Coach Booking

Currently all bookings are being taken on match days in the STAR HQ behind the East Stand, opposite Gate 7. We will be open before the match, at half time (access only to those in the East Stand) and after the game. We will also usually be open for bookings on Tuesday evenings (except when RFC are away when we will not be open but on the coach!) from 7.30pm to 9pm but please check this website for updates on opening hours.

Places can be limited, so if you are thinking of travelling by coach to an away game please book early. All coach bookings must be made in advance, please do not leave it until the last minute or turn up on match day and assume there will be seats available. Coach tickets are on sale several weeks before a fixture and the number of coaches are pre-booked based on firm bookings made several days before match day. Unfortunately we are not able to put on extra coaches at the last minute even if there is a demand for it.

Booking Policy:  Only STAR members are allowed to travel on coaches organised by STAR Travel. Members will be required to produce their membership card when both booking the coach and when boarding prior to travel. Persons not in possession of a valid membership card may be prevented from travelling. Members may book for groups but, at the time of booking, must be in possession of the membership cards relating to those in the group.

Under 14's/18's Policy: We have a designated coach for those under 18 years old travelling without an adult. Only this coach will allow under 18's to travel alone so you must request this coach when making your booking and remember spaces will therefore be limited. Please also note that you must be at least 14 years of age to travel on this coach alone or with another minor, if you're under 14 you must be accompanied by someone aged 18+ to travel with STAR.

Reading Town Centre Pick Up Policy: One coach is designated as Reading Town Centre coach, only this coach will pick up and drop off in West Street, Reading outside Primark. Members wishing to travel on this coach must state this at the time of booking. No other coaches will go to the town centre other than this coach.

Disabled Travel - Home and Away

readibus.jpg

Reading FC has over 100 wheelchair spaces for wheelchair supporters and many more for people with ambulatory disabilities (i.e. those with walking difficulties, the hard of hearing, partially sighted or learning difficulties). The Stadium are past winners of the National Association of Disabled Supporters (NADS) award for the best facilities in the South. For more information about NADS including a detailed Guide on disabled facilities at ALL football grounds, check out www.nads.org.uk.

Two initiatives have been developed dealing with home games and away matches.

Firstly, for Home Travel, Readibus provides a "dedicated" bus which picks passengers up from home, delivers them to the ground, stays at the ground (thus allowing the driver to stay and watch the match too) and then drops passengers back home. This service is booked on the normal Readibus telephone line up to a week in advance and can take up to 3 people remaining in wheelchairs and 6 other people. In addition, should there be more demand for home games, we will look at making further “dedicated” services available – at the moment any additional passengers/supports can still book on the normal “dial-a-ride” service. Readibus can be contacted on 0118 931 0000.

STAR in conjunction with Readibus are also now offering an Away Travel service to the majority of games this season. This service is being subsidised by STAR so that prices charged will be comparable with those provided on “official” away travel. The bus can again take 2-3 wheelchair passengers (staying in their wheelchair) plus transfers/helpers and other passengers. As an added benefit, when you book this service, match tickets will be arranged (subject to availability) so that one price will be payable for transport and actually getting into the match.

Because of this, there will be no refunds for failure to travel unless replacement passengers can be found or the ticket’s can be returned to the away club. As the number of tickets provided by the away club is variable, to ensure you get a ticket, bookings must normally be made at least 7 days in advance of the match (preferably earlier if possible). Late bookings can still be made depending on availability.

For passengers living in the Greater Reading area, you will be picked up and dropped off from your home address. Other passengers will be picked up and returned to the Madejski Stadium.

That's it for this season!

We would like to thank all members who travelled with us during the 2011-12 season and all the support from our stewards and drivers from our travel partners Horsemans Coaches.

We look forward to providing a travel service to all away matches for our members during the 2012-13 season.

The STAR Travel team is co-ordinated by Colin Bishop, lifelong Reading supporter, STAR Board member and experienced travel organiser. He is supported by a number of volunteers who help with bookings and stewarding on the coaches.

STAR work very closely with our Travel partners Horsemans Coaches who have a fleet of Luxury and Executive Coaches for longer journeys. Their friendly approach and willingness to 'go the extra mile' (excuse the pun!) makes them very much part of our community of away travellers.
