I was privileged to go onto the pitch on the last day of the season to present Andy Rinomhota with the Player of the Season Trophy. As Jose Gomes wanted no distractions before the game the presentation was immediately after the final whistle, and so I was called down to the players tunnel on 85 minutes to meet Paul Evans who was to award Michael Olise with the Scholar of the Year Award. The area was crowded as the players’ families were all there waiting too – especially John O’Shea’s family who went out to see him come onto the pitch for the final time. It was a special moment for me to be part of the ‘Reading family’.
Andy was the clear winner on both the card and the online votes, though interestingly the rest of the votes did not parallel each other quite the same. Also it is a credit to the team that every player on the list was voted for, as well as several players omitted as they have left the club or had not played enough games. Thank you to everyone who voted – STAR is happy to arrange for the vote to take place with the help of the club so remember next year to watch for the voting boxes on the concourses to have your say in the next winner.
