Sheffield Wednesday Programme Notes

Today we hear from Roger Titford – STAR Board member

Promotion race

It’s getting tighter! At one point there was a nice big gap and you thought of the field of contenders has narrowed down to just those clubs above it. Next minute – teams on a streak like Barnsley and Cardiff are right up there with you and the gap is now between 9th and 10th – not 6th and 7th.
One and a half points per match ‘should’ still be enough for us to make the play-offs but for those who prefer to take each game as it comes – three points today would be ‘massive’ and give us three wins on the spin. And everyone else’s streak has to come to an end – though you do wonder about Manchester City and what they’re on! A problem for another season, we hope.

Filming Hall of Fame

I’ve spent a chunk of this week filming a fair few of our famous former goal scorers. They’re among the 25 names who are about to be newly inducted into STAR’s Reading Hall of Fame and the filmed interviews will be a key part of the new look, necessarily remote, show.
All will be revealed on Sunday 21st March – with the event starting at 7.30pm on Reading FC Facebook and YouTube channels. It’s Census night too – so a day to remember! Please tune in – it’s free and open to all supporters.

Strange season

I missed my first game of the season last Saturday though I haven’t actually been to any. Through the combination of Sky and iFollow I’d seen all the home and away, including cup, matches. I wish I had some information on what the viewing figures have been but I do know a couple of people who have watched more games than they would have otherwise because of the iFollow facility.
There will doubtless be an interesting debate at the end of the season amongst the clubs as to whether and how much of the facility will be retained – assuming of course that we will be allowed back into stadia in significant numbers by then. Here’s hoping that we are.
