TODAY WE HERE FROM PETE VICKERY – STAR BOARD MEMBER
HELPING TO MAKE DREAMS
Have you ever scored that perfect winning goal only to wake up and discover it was all a dream? Here at STAR we help make dreams become a reality by helping others with their dreams.
You may know us for running inexpensive travel to away games or for organising supporter orientated fans forums, or for the annual Remembrance Service, or even for STAR’s Reading FC Hall of Fame. Yes, we organise and run all of those plus many others that are not so obvious. As part of STAR’s objectives, we also encourage and help with football related actives in the local community. Running teams, local cup finals, bringing football to the disabled and broadcasting home games to those who are unfortunately in hospital is not cheap in today’s world. Here at STAR we help to make other people’s dreams come true by sponsoring a football club, three finals and Hospital Radio Reading.
Let’s start with Hospital Radio Reading. Consider that you are unfortunately in hospital. Reading is playing at home and you dream that you could be there. Well, we can’t help take you to the stadium but we can bring the stadium to you via Hospital Radio Reading. STAR help with the running costs of providing commentary of every home game direct to your hospital bed. With their help your dreams can come true.
Many of the local deaf community once dreamed of playing football in a local team. STAR was asked if we could help, so we now help Reading FC Deaf team to for fill their dreams by sponsoring them via Reading FC Community Trust. Through the past four years, with our help, they have become one of the country’s finest national deaf football teams. With a bulging trophy cabinet and once again league champions, they are achieving their dreams.
Lastly, we are proud and delighted to once again support the costs of staging the Semi-Finals and Finals of this season’s Reading and District Sunday League’s three cup competitions. Out there are six teams dreaming of becoming this season’s cup champions in the John Lusted Cup on 12th May 2019 at the Rivermore Stadium, K/O 10:30am. The Industrial Cup also at the Rivermore Stadium, K/O 3pm and the Tilehurst Charity Cup on 10th May 2019, K/O 7pm. South Reading FC, Shinfield Park United FC, Twyford Comets FC, Tilehurst Club FC and Purley FC are all hoping to make their dreams come true.
Come and help yourself and others make their dreams come true by joining STAR next season.
Introducing Pete Vickery
Pete Vickery spent his boy hood growing up abroad and before retiring earned his living as a product designer. Pete started to support Reading in 1966. One day Sir John Madejski suggested that Pete should get involved with STAR and he took this advice and has been actively involved ever since.
