Cardiff City Programme Notes

The STAR AGM and the first Fans Forum of the season take place on Thursday 5 September from 8pm at the Princess Suite. Our first Forum guests of the season will be members of the Reading Women’s team who will be reflecting on their best-ever season in 2018-19 and the women’s World Cup held this summer. Don’t worry Jose Gomes fans – we’re sure he’ll be back at the Forum later in the season. Besides the necessary AGM and confirmation of new board members we’ll be having a couple of outstanding Hall of Fame presentations from the March list of inductees. As always, this event is FREE and STAR MEMBERS ONLY.

Huge thanks to owner Mr Yongge Dai for the fantastic free away travel offer. He will be covering the costs of STAR coach hire for the 15 (out of 23) most distant away matches. Anyone who would have travelled to all 15 would save over £350 at last season’s prices.

Last Saturday saw the first of these free travel games, the long journey to Hull. We took five coaches and our hard-working travel team judged it a great success. Last season barely one coach went to Hull. It was wonderful to have this backing for the team though unfortunately the result was the same, even if the score was a little closer.

We’re now taking bookings for free travel to West Bromwich (21 August) and Huddersfield (24 August). We’ve been inundated with queries most of which can be answered by looking at the information on our website. To pick a few of the more common – you can only book three or four games in advance – not until the end of the season, yes, you do need to be a STAR member, yes you can book online, no this offer doesn’t apply (as yet anyway) to Cup games.

As you can imagine applications for membership of STAR has gone crazy. Paula, our membership secretary, has dealt with over 1000 applications already and we will be running low – if not already out – of our limited stocks of free gifts – shiny badge or plastic wristband.

However, don’t let the lack of a free gift, or sympathy for Paula, prevent you from joining STAR! You’ll still get your 10% off voucher for the Fanstore (handy for the new shirt) and a free draw chance to have your next season season-ticket paid for by STAR (if join before 30 November).

As part of our community programme STAR is delighted to continue its major sponsorships / support for the Reading FC Deaf team and the Reading & District Sunday League during 2019-20.
